I° LEZIONE DI MEDICINA
The Holy Spirit

My intention is to try to make myself useful, for this reason I thought of dedicating some anatomy lessons to you in order to make you more aware patients.

As a first lesson I thought I would keep it simple and not delve into the more complex details of epithelial tissues and defense mechanisms that protect our mucous membranes, so let's start by understanding how the gastric bubble works.

In practice it is an air bubble that is always physiologically present in the bottom of the stomach which is in contact with the diaphragm and therefore indirectly with the heart.

When the amount of air in the bubble increases, it is eliminated through the cardia and flows into the esophagus, producing the so-called burp.

When this bubble does not find an outlet, it increases in volume and, by compressing the cardiac region, alters the functionality of the heart, producing abdominal swelling, tachycardia, extrasystoles and chest tightness that so alarm patients.

In reality, these symptoms are purely functional in nature and are not dangerous at all because they do not indicate any cardiac malfunction.

Often the unexpelled air bubble is associated with heartburn and acidity which are the classic symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux that we will discuss in the next posts.
